    Combining Business Intelligence with Semantic Technologies: The CUBIST Project

    This paper describes the European Framework Seven CUBIST project, which ran from October 2010 to September 2013. The project aimed to combine the best elements of traditional BI with the newer, semantic, technologies of the Sematic Web, in the form of RDF and FCA. CUBIST’s purpose was to provide end-users with "conceptually relevant and user friendly visual analytics" to allow them to explore their data in new ways, discovering hidden meaning and solving hitherto difficult problems. To this end, three of the partners in CUBIST were use-cases: recruitment consultancy, computational biology and the space industry. Each use-case provided their own requirements and evaluated how well the CUBIST outcomes addressed them

    Evaluating Behavioral Health Service Need for Sexual and Gender Minorities: A Community-Based Qualitative Study

    The LGBTQ community experiences mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders, at rates higher than heterosexual and cisgender counterparts. Given these disparities in mental health, it is crucial that the LGBTQ population has access to mental health services. However, LGBTQ individuals face barriers to accessing mental health care due to service affordability, availability, and/or lack of LGBT-inclusivity. A Place to Nourish your Health (APNH), formerly known as AIDS Project New Haven, has historically provided care to those in New Haven who live with HIV and AIDS. APNH is now seeking to re-define itself as an organization by expanding services to support those experiencing stigma related to gender identity, sexual orientation, addiction, and mental health. Thus, to aid APNH in their service expansion to stigmatized populations, we performed a qualitative community needs assessment in the greater New Haven area to inform where APNH’s priorities should lie in their expansion of services.     the influence of phosphate on structure and activity

    Two types of manganese oxides have been prepared by hydrolysis of tetranuclear Mn(III) complexes in the presence or absence of phosphate ions. The oxides have been characterized structurally using X-ray absorption spectroscopy and functionally by O2 evolution measurements. The structures of the oxides prepared in the absence of phosphate are dominated by di-μ-oxo bridged manganese ions that form layers with limited long-range order, consisting of edge-sharing MnO6 octahedra. The average manganese oxidation state is +3.5. The structure of these oxides is closely related to other manganese oxides reported as water oxidation catalysts. They show high oxygen evolution activity in a light-driven system containing [Ru(bpy)3]2+ and S2O82− at pH 7. In contrast, the oxides formed by hydrolysis in the presence of phosphate ions contain almost no di-μ-oxo bridged manganese ions. Instead the phosphate groups are acting as bridges between the manganese ions. The average oxidation state of manganese ions is +3. This type of oxide has much lower water oxidation activity in the light-driven system. Correlations between different structural motifs and the function as a water oxidation catalyst are discussed and the lower activity in the phosphate containing oxide is linked to the absence of protonable di-μ-oxo bridges

    Hand arm vibration generated by a rotary pick-up for table olives harvesting

    The manual harvest of olives is one of the most expensive operations in the table olives production, but the use of the electric hand-guided machines triples the productivity.  The development of these new machines leads to changes in the harvesting methodologies and in the operator’s working behavior.  These items may also affect the hand-arm vibration (HAV) transmitted to the operators during the work.  Aim of this study is to evaluate the hand-arm vibration transmitted to the operator using an experimental electric labor saving machine with rotary combs with teeth of different dimensions covered by silicon to minimize the damage to the drupes.  Moreover, the olives removal forces have been analyzed to understand if the force necessary to detach the drupes is correlated to the vibration levels transmitted to the operator’s hand arm.  With this type of hand held olive harvester, it has been found that higher is the fruit removal force, higher are the measured vibration levels.   Keywords: HAV, portable olive shakers, rotary pick-up, table olive

    New reference solutions and parametrics study for multilayered cylindrical shell

    This work deals with the performances of a refined shell model for modelizing cylindrical multilayered deep or shallow, thin or thick shells. To this end, new 3D analytical solutions are built from the well known Ren cylindrical shell panel and stand for reference solutions. Next, a parametric study varying the shell geometry (radius of curvature, thickness, curve side length of the panel) and the number of layers is carried out numerically using a C1 finite element based on the present shell model. Numerical results are then compared to the new set of reference solutions established for laminates of 1, 2, 3 and 5 layers. Finally, use restrictions according to the shell geometry can be done. Moreover, indications about shell curvature can be obtained considering the ratio between radius and curve length

    Complexation of NpO2+ with Amine-Functionalized Diacetamide Ligands in Aqueous Solution: Thermodynamic, Structural, and Computational Studies

    Complexation of Np(V) with three structurally related amine-functionalized diacetamide ligands, including 2,2'-azanediylbis( N, N'-dimethylacetamide) (ABDMA), 2,2'-(methylazanediyl)bis( N, N'-dimethylacetamide) (MABDMA), and 2,2'-(benzylazanediyl)bis( N, N'-dimethylacetamide) (BnABDMA), in aqueous solutions was investigated. The stability constants of two successive complexes, namely, NpO2L+ and NpO2L2+, where L stands for the ligands, were determined by absorption spectrophotometry. The results suggest that the stability constants of corresponding Np(V) complexes follow the trend: MABDMA > ABDMA ≈ BnABDMA. The data are discussed in terms of the basicity of the ligands and compared with those for the complexation of Np(V) with an ether oxygen-linked diacetamide ligand. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure data indicate that, similar to the complexation with Nd3+ and UO22+, the ligands coordinate to NpO2+ in a tridentate mode through the amine nitrogen and two oxygen atoms of the amide groups. Computational results, in conjunction with spectrophotometric data, verify that the 1:2 complexes (NpO2(L)2+) in aqueous solutions are highly symmetric with Np at the inversion center, so that the f-f transition of Np(V) is forbidden and NpO2(L)2+ does not display significant absorption in the near-IR region

    Fixed-point elimination in the intuitionistic propositional calculus

    It is a consequence of existing literature that least and greatest fixed-points of monotone polynomials on Heyting algebras-that is, the algebraic models of the Intuitionistic Propositional Calculus-always exist, even when these algebras are not complete as lattices. The reason is that these extremal fixed-points are definable by formulas of the IPC. Consequently, the μ\mu-calculus based on intuitionistic logic is trivial, every μ\mu-formula being equivalent to a fixed-point free formula. We give in this paper an axiomatization of least and greatest fixed-points of formulas, and an algorithm to compute a fixed-point free formula equivalent to a given μ\mu-formula. The axiomatization of the greatest fixed-point is simple. The axiomatization of the least fixed-point is more complex, in particular every monotone formula converges to its least fixed-point by Kleene's iteration in a finite number of steps, but there is no uniform upper bound on the number of iterations. We extract, out of the algorithm, upper bounds for such n, depending on the size of the formula. For some formulas, we show that these upper bounds are polynomial and optimal

    Electrical detection of spin accumulation in a p-type GaAs quantum well

    We report on experiments in which a spin-polarized current is injected from a GaMnAsGaMnAs ferromagnetic electrode into a GaAsGaAs quantum well through an AlAs barrier. The resulting spin polarization in the GaAs well is detected by measuring how the current, tunneling to a second GaMnAsGaMnAs ferromagnetic electrode, depends on the orientation of its magnetization. Our results can be accounted for the non-relaxed spin splitting of the chemical potential, that is spin accumulation, in the GaAsGaAs well. We discuss the conditions on the hole spin relaxation time in GaAs that are required to obtain the large effects we observe.Comment: 4 pages - 2 figues; one added note; some numbers corrected on page
